“He gave me lotion.”
Currently in conversation with one of my very favorites about gift giving when it comes to boyfriend/husband/significant other - whatever land.
I feel like the first gift a man gives a woman can be so telling - or so very not. Starting with a story…Mike and I started dating “casually” (read between the lines on that one) in June 2006. We made it official bf/gf status in November (yes, I’m in high school) and he ended up spending Christmas with my family.
We exchanged gifts - and I had put so much thought into EVERYTHING I gave him. Like, I’m not a big gift giver in life (I feel that spending time with someone especially when all my friends and family live so far from each other is a better gift) - but it was our FIRST exchange and wanted it to be amazing.
So, we exchange gifts, he loves everything - yay. And then I proceed to open my gift…and I just wanted it to be thoughtful, I wanted him to know me, because that would mean so much, right?
He gave me lotion.
From Bath and Body Works. Like the most generic, terrible gift ever right? (Now please don’t judge me. I know this is literally kicking a gift horse in the mouth - but it’s more the sentiment, or lack thereof, behind the Bath and Body Works lotion that made me recoil).
Anyway, my point in this rambling post is that while it is incredibly possible to judge a first gift from a male suitor, looking beyond the lotion is probably a good idea. Well, in my case anyway.
